Collecting the genes!

When we finally get our hands on a specific betta for color or finnage or pattern then we have three choices. First, take a picture, that will last for possible decades. Second, Admire him in his confined space until his time arrives. Third, breed him to get what you want as a continuous genetic trait or color that you wish to preserve. I always opt for the first and third choices in that order. The next thing I attempt in pursuing that trait is to see if he/she has a sibling of the opposite sex. The next choice is the color, the next is the finnage that I admire. I also pursue butterfly pattern if it is available. Should I get all three choices plus a sibling then I spawn them and that begins a massive generation pursuit of what I initially searched for. I always opt for brother to sister because of size and age. That I refer to as "in-breeding". If it is available then I would pursue a Father -Daughter match to get a further cementing of whatever traits I seek. This I refer to as "line-breeding". The Mother to Son has not worked well for as the Mothers are usually just too darn big to wrap. I have worked some strains to the 12th generation in pursuit of a specific trait. However, they become unreasonably weak for future spawn attempts.
