My subject deals with how we can use almost anything at our disposal for some of our various fish room situations. I use my wife's discarded pantyhose for a multitude of purposes in my fish room. 1. I cut the toe section off of her pantyhose close to the heel. This gives me a nice long fine "net" for various jobs. 2. For example: When taking old water out of a fry, juvenile, or adult tank, I take the pantyhose and stretch it over the siphoning hose and secure it with a rubber band. The size of the hose is determined by the size of the bettas in the tank. Fine mesh for small fry and juveniles. 3. I have also stretched it over a large hand fish net frame, after removing the large mesh net that was there, to remove a bubble nest and eggs and fry from one tank to another when I had a lazy or a hungry male to deal with. 4. Daily, I use the "pantyhose" net to collect newly hatched baby brine shrimp. This I do by simply stretching the hose over the neck of a large bottle container and draining the water and the NHBBS into the container and stopping it before the water level gets to the floating empty hatched shrimp egg husks. 5. * Important note. Regular pantyhose is quite suitable for using when draining a tank. However regular pantyhose has too wide of a mesh for catching baby brine shrimp. Here I must tell you that one kind and only one kind of pantyhose must be purchased and used. "Support" pantyhose must be used. The weave in the support hose is very fine and excellent for capturing newly hatched baby brine shrimp. 6. My suggestion is to go to any food market or clothing store and buy a pair of the support pantyhose and this can be used for all of the tasks that I described above, instead of buying two or three types. The best color to use is white but any color works. 7. After using, I thoroughly rinse the hose and dry it and it is available for re-use within an hour.
